There are a number of green friends one could use to revive those dark corners in your home. Please find here below a list of those plants which are currently available from our garden centre that can withstand these complicated conditions:- Zamioculcas Zamiifolia: In temperate regions, it is grown as a houseplant. Over watering may destroy this plant; remaining on the side of dryness is preferable rather than risking tuber rot. Do not use leaf shiners – it definitely does not need it, since its foliage is luminous naturally. Bright, indirect light is best for Zamioculcas, although it will tolerate very low light. Pellaea Rotundifolia: A very hardy and low spreading fern, with a strong rhizome and scaly brown stems. Native to Australia and New Zealand, it grows well outside in a mild temperate climate but is often cultivated as a house plant as it survives well in cool dark places. Dracaena Marginata is a popular houseplant that needs little attention. Being more tolerant than most plants of dry soil and irregular watering, it is liable to root decay in permanently wet soil. Because it requires minimal care, it is very popular in offices where the constant heat and light suits their growing requirements. It is one of the plants used in the NASA Clean Air Study and has shown to help remove formaldehyde. Aglaonema, are popular houseplants and ornamental plants for offices and shopping malls because they are among the easiest houseplants to grow. Numerous cultivars have been selected, including plants with variegated leaves. They tolerate a wide range of light, as well as neglect, and are relatively resistant to pests. The Selaginella Martensii is a perennial houseplant, which comes from Central America. Having frond-like sprays of feathery green foliage, its stems grow upright to about 30cm, which later produce aerial roots. There are also variegated varieties which has silvery-white tips. It will do well in bottle gardens and terrariums, where the atmosphere is humid and protected. This plant can tolerate a dark position. Schefflera Elegantissima also known as Dizygoteca. Its leaves are thin, coppery red to dark green with toothed edges. It can reach six to seven feet in height. The soil should be allowed to dry out between watering. It has shown to do well in moderate to dark lit places. I hope that this information has helped you create an even warmer atmosphere in your home having every corner filled with some of your green friends! |
